SmartField in Washington

Recently, we attended the AGU24 conference in Washington where researchers from all over the world gathered.

The theme of the conference was: What's next for science, and emissions from agriculture were among the topics on the agenda.

From Denmark, we were represented by Klaus Butterbach-Bahl, Professor, Center Leader of the Land-CRAFT Pioneer Center at Aarhus University and Scientific Director in SmartField, and Ann Britt Værge, Project Director in SmartField and Team Manager at the Danish Technological Institute.

At the conference, we had the opportunity to present the SmartField project.

Klaus Butterbach-Bahl gave a presentation titled: "Can we overcome spatio-temporal variability in assessing greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural systems?", where he shared results from studies showing the importance of continuously monitoring emissions over time and under different conditions. SmartField was also presented during the talk because this is exactly what we aim to do in SmartField to achieve the best basis for improving the accounting of nitrous oxide emissions at various scales in Denmark through modelling.

Ann Britt Værge participated in a poster session at the conference where interested attendees could stop by and learn more about SmartField.

It is important that we gain new knowledge based on data and also share our knowledge internationally to better understand emissions.

AGU was a good forum for this and it was also fantastic to have the opportunity to meet some of our partners in the project
