The maize at our SmartField Supersite A has now reached over 2 metres in height.
With the rapid crop growth, our chamber system also needed to adapt.
Earlier in the season, we used chamber extensions to accommodate the growing maize. Now that further extensions are no longer practical, we have just switched to our dedicated tall-maize chamber system.
This allows us to continue monitoring emissions throughout the growing season, from the early growth stages to a fully developed maize canopy.
A nice example that field experiments are dynamic — sometimes the measurement system has to grow with the crop.
